The Learning Space
The Learning Space was founded in 2008 by Joanne Hindle, a British teacher who has been teaching for 20 years, in both England and Tanzania. Joanne saw a need for children from all different economic backgrounds to learn together – for everyone to be given access to good education. From this idea she created a small kindergarten in what was a guest house and garage in the backyard of her home in Olasiti, Arusha. Based on using a sliding scale fee structure this made good education accessible to all economic backgrounds. The Learning Space has expanded over 3 classrooms, continually growing to educate young children and their families – now having supported over 40 children over the years through subsidised and sponsored placements. Since 2011, Tara Finlay has taken on The Learning Space as the Director, working alongside her team of Tanzanian teachers and teaching assistants. The Learning Spaces team continually work together to expand their dream of creating a solid foundation in early years education for children of all backgrounds.
